There are a number of rivers in Oregon which
provide for very scenic and adventurous rafting
experiences.
The fast flowing Umpqua River, north of Crater
Lake has exceptional Class III and IV
whitewater. It has more rapids per mile than any
other Oregon river. You can take guided tours
through Oregon whitewater Adventures. One and
two day trips are available starting at the
Gravel Bin Boat Landing which is 1.3 miles past
Steamboat Inn, approximately 40 miles east of
Roseburg on Highway 138.
Grande Ronde River is another river that Oregon
Whitewater Adventures provide guided tours. This
river makes its way through ancient lava flows
and eventually joins the Columbia River. The
forests provide for amazing sightings of birds
and wildlife. The river is gentle enough to
allow for opportunities to take pictures, bird
watch, or stop and hike or swim. For the Oregon
Whitewater Adventures guided tours they start at
the Minam Store located at the confluence of the
Wallowa and Minam Rivers on Highway 82,
approximately 35 miles northwest of La Grande,
Oregon.
McKenzie River offers opportunities for both
beginners and experienced rafters. The Upper
McKenzie offers non-stop action on a fast paced
continuous narrow stretch.
The John Day boasts the longest undammed river
in the Pacific Northwest at 280 miles. You will
be treated to incredible scenery and unspoiled
beauty impressive cliffs more than 3,000 feet
high above the river. The John Day is also a
favorite for bird watching and there is winter
steelhead and bass fishing. A popular section is
a 69 mile section from Clarno to Cottonwood with
Class II whitewater.
Owyhee River in southeast Oregon is best rafted
in spring when high mountain snows melt. The
river offers amazing scenery from the remote
desert wilderness. You will see beautiful rock
formations and a variety of birds and wildlife.
If you would like a guided tour the Oregon
Whitewater Adventures puts in at Rome located on
Highway 95 East, between Burns Junction and
Jordan Valley.
The Deschutes River is the best known river in
Oregon. The Deschutes offers hot days, clear
skies, cold water and Class III and IV rapids.
Clackamas river provides for a laid back rafting
experience with class 2-3 rapids.
